Up your skincare game with Oil Cleansing

You’ve got to be kidding right? Oil cleansing will create a hotch-pot of blemishes, not clear my skin!

Uh uh uh! I am here to share some very interesting information, to re-educate you, shall we say

For many the idea of clear, healthy, glowing skin, free of congestion and skin dryness seems to be an elusive goal, one that is never quite within reach. Would you be surprised to hear that to cleanse with oil may just be the answer that can help bring about the flawless skin you have been dreaming of?

We all know that cleansing is the first step a balanced skincare routine, and there are many potential routes to take: you can simply splash before you moisturise, mask on and slough off, gently cleanse with a nurturing cream cleanser, or spend time lathering.

So how does one decide which cleanser (and method) to use then?

If you happen to pay any attention to mainstream advertising, you may have noticed a great deal of propaganda suggesting that you need to cleanse with “grease cutting” or “antibacterial” soaps, or use 30 different acids to deep cleanse and remove debris, unclog pores that have a build-up of toxins such as tar, pollution (well maybe not tar)…. bladdy bladdy blah. Truth is, not only do many such heavy-hitting cleansers and acids feel unpleasant to use, (sting, redden one’s face etc), they often aggravate the skin and make it feel and look worse. And dare I point out, unbalance the skin’s natural pH mantle at the same time. Yay!

At Indira Organics, we believe that cleansing is one of the most important aspects of an effective skincare routine – see our blog on double cleansing - however choosing the right cleanser can be quite tricky, and of course is different for everyone. As such we have developed three products for effective cleansing (with another in the pipeline (yehah!)), to help you find precisely what works for you.

First, our much-loved Cleansing Gel gently foams whilst being non-drying to thoroughly remove daily grime, leaving skin feeling beautifully soft and hydrated: designed for congested or combination skin.

Next, our luxurious Cream Cleanser gently removes make-up and surface grime as it nourishes the skin, leaving it feeling noticeably soft and nurtured: designed for combination, normal and mature skin-types.

And now we have a third cleanser: our exquisite Cleansing Oil. A light and silky cleanser that incorporates Australian Sandalwood, Tangerine, Geranium and the precious youth-promoting Camellia Oil – a non-occlusive, naturally hydrating, anti-inflammatory carrier oil, rich in anti-aging properties. This wonderful product also contains other hidden gems such as Hempseed Oil and Avocado Oil to really sneak in some superlative additional extras; much like Vitamixing those veggies into the bolognaise – no one really notices, but gee the benefits are outstanding!

So what’s the real win with cleansing with oil?

Renowned for centuries by the beautiful Japanese geishas, oil cleansing won’t strip your skin of its natural oils nor will it disturb the pH balance. This is important as not only does your natural oil help lubricate, but it also heals, protects, and moisturizes your skin. Properly functioning skin can be beautiful, clear, and glowing, and learning to work with it, not against it, will save you a tremendous amount of pain, stress, and money.

And perhaps surprisingly, oil cleansing is a fantastic choice for all skin types including dry, mature, and especially oily skin, because it gently removes excess sebum and helps dislodge blackheads without causing irritation.

And the method?

The best way to use our cleansing oil is by gently massaging a small amount of oil into the skin for two to three minutes and then rinsing thoroughly with warm water and a washcloth. Taking 2-3 minutes to indulge in this process can genuinely feel like a high-end beauty treatment, not to mention, is a true life-hack!

Whilst many are concerned that oil will produce blemishes, cysts, blackheads, whiteheads, don’t be. These are generally the result of several different factors including hormones, bacteria, dead skin cells and the build-up of these factors.

And one final tip?

Try using the Oil Cleansing Method in the evening, prior to bed. There is no need for deep cleansing in the morning if you’re waking up with skin that was thoroughly cleansed the night before. The Oil Cleansing Method, along with any other cleansing method, is not going to work to keep your skin clear and balanced if you are sleeping with dirty or makeup caked skin. Wash the day away before bed and ensure your pillowcase is clean. In the morning, a quick wipe with a warm washcloth or a rinse in the shower should be more than enough.
